They created this weight loss plan as an alternative to the Pritkin Diet and the Ornish Diet which were promoted by the American Heart Association during the 1980s. The theory of this diet is to replace bad fats and carbohydrates with good fats and carbohydrates. Good carbohydrates are those with low GI, such as beans, whole grains, and vegetables. Bad fats include saturated fats and trans-fats, while good fats include lean meat, oily fish, and nuts.
Atkins Diet
Also known as the Atkins Nutritional Approach, the Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that was formulated by Dr. Robert Atkins. This approach consists of 4 phases of dietary changes. This was a popular diet especially around 2005, as it was more cheaper than Jenny Craig but more expensive compared to Weight Watchers.
